Deep Cleaning Checklist
Regular tidying keeps your home livable, but deep cleaning keeps it healthy. This room-by-room guide covers everything from kitchen grease buildup to bedroom dust mites—plus the often-forgotten spots that accumulate grime over time.
How Often to Deep Clean
Most homes benefit from a thorough deep clean 2-4 times per year—typically with the seasons. Spring and fall are ideal times, but the best schedule is the one you'll actually follow. Break this checklist into manageable chunks: one room per weekend works great.
Kitchen Deep Clean
The kitchen accumulates grease, food particles, and bacteria faster than any other room. A thorough deep clean takes 2-4 hours depending on kitchen size.
Appliances
- Refrigerator: Remove all items, discard expired food, wipe shelves and drawers with baking soda solution, clean door seals, vacuum coils (coil cleaning guide)
- Oven: Run self-clean cycle or use oven cleaner, clean racks separately, wipe door glass inside and out
- Microwave: Heat bowl of water with lemon for 3 minutes, let steam loosen grime, wipe clean
- Dishwasher: Clean filter, run empty cycle with dishwasher cleaner or vinegar, wipe door edges and seals
- Range hood: Soak and scrub filter in hot soapy water, wipe exterior and underside
