taskdwell ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our home maintenance management platform.
By using taskdwell, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Service.
Service scope. taskdwell is offered to users in the United States. The Service is built around U.S. property maintenance practices and U.S. tax categorization (including IRS Schedule E for rental properties). We do not currently target or actively market to users outside the United States. If you choose to access taskdwell from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. See Section 9 (International Data Transfers) for details, and Sections 10 and 11 for region-specific rights that may apply.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: Name, email address, password (encrypted)
- Home Details: Property information including address, square footage, year built, home features (HVAC, pool, etc.), and ownership type
- Task Data: Maintenance tasks, completion dates, notes, and custom schedules
- Inventory Information: Appliance details, model numbers, serial numbers, purchase dates, warranties, and estimated values
- Documents: Uploaded files including manuals, receipts, photos, and other documents
- Payment Information: Billing details processed through Stripe (we do not store credit card numbers)
2.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, time spent, and interaction patterns
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and IP address
- Cookies: We use cookies to maintain sessions and improve user experience
- Log Data: Server logs including access times, error messages, and API requests
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Create and manage your account
- Generate personalized maintenance schedules
- Send task reminders and warranty expiration alerts
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Respond to customer support requests
- Send important service updates and announcements
- Analyze usage patterns to improve features
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
4.1 Service Providers
We share data with trusted third-party services that help us operate:
- Clerk: Authentication and user management
- Supabase: Database hosting and file storage
- Vercel: Application hosting and deployment
- Stripe: Payment processing
These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.
4.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to:
- Comply with legal obligations, court orders, or government requests
- Enforce our Terms of Service
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of taskdwell, our users, or the public
- Prevent fraud or security threats
4.3 Business Transfers
If taskdwell is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:
- Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256 encryption
- Authentication: Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text; we use enterprise-grade authentication through Clerk
- Access Controls: Strict internal access policies and role-based permissions
- Regular Audits: Security assessments and vulnerability scanning
- Backups: Regular automated backups with redundancy
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as necessary to:
- Provide the Service to you
- Comply with legal obligations
- Resolve disputes and enforce agreements
Active Accounts: Data is retained indefinitely while your account is active.
Cancelled Accounts: After cancellation, your account is deactivated but data is retained for 30 days to allow reactivation. After the 30-day grace period, all personal data is permanently deleted except where retention is required by law. Section 7.3 below describes the deletion flow and how to cancel a pending deletion during the grace window.
Backups: Data in backups may persist for up to 30 days after deletion but is not accessible.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your data:
7.1 Access and Portability
You can access your data anytime through your account dashboard. To download a full JSON export of your data (homes, signals, inventory, documents, subscription, timeline, onboarding progress), sign in and visit /api/user/data/export — the download starts immediately. If you encounter any issue with the export, email contact@taskdwell.com.
7.2 Correction
You can update your account information, home details, and other data directly in the app.
7.3 Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and all associated data from your account settings. Deletion is scheduled with a 30-day grace period — during that window you can still sign in, and you can cancel the deletion by emailing contact@taskdwell.com. After 30 days, your account and all associated data are permanently deleted. Team ownership is transferred to another admin (if present) before deletion so shared work is preserved.
7.4 Marketing Communications
You may opt out of promotional emails by clicking "unsubscribe" in any marketing email or updating your notification preferences. You cannot opt out of essential service communications (e.g., security alerts, billing notifications).
7.5 Cookies
Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent. However, disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the Service.
8. Children's Privacy
taskdwell is not directed to children. Our Terms of Service require all account holders to be at least 18 years old (or to have parental or guardian consent if local law permits younger users with consent).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will delete that information promptly. This commitment is consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, contact us at contact@taskdwell.com and we will delete the information.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data is stored and processed in the United States. We rely on the following sub-processors to operate the Service:
- Supabase (database and file storage), United States
- Clerk (authentication and account management), United States
- Stripe (payment processing), United States and EU
- PostHog (analytics, gated by your cookie consent), United States
- Resend (transactional email delivery), United States
- Anthropic (AI processing of resume, property, and chat content when you use AI features), United States
- Sentry (error monitoring with PII scrubbing applied), United States
- Vercel (application hosting and CDN), United States and EU edge nodes
If you access taskdwell from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using taskdwell, you consent to this transfer. Where required by applicable law (for example, for users in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms with our sub-processors.
10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
- Right to request deletion of your personal information
- Right to opt out of the "sale" of personal information (we do not sell your information)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

11. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

12. Subscription Auto-Renewal
Paid taskdwell subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel. We follow the practices below so you stay in control:
- Cancel any time, in-app. You can cancel from your account settings (the same medium you used to subscribe). Your access continues through the end of the current billing period.
- Trial reminders. If you start a trial, we email you reminders before the trial converts to a paid subscription so you can decide whether to continue.
- Cancellation confirmation. When you cancel, we send a confirmation email with the date your access ends. No further charges are made after cancellation.
- Refunds. A 30-day money-back guarantee applies to all paid plans. See our Refund Policy for details.
This posture is designed to comply with state automatic-renewal laws, including California's Automatic Renewal Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §17600 et seq.), New York General Business Law §527-a, Colorado's automatic renewal statute, and similar laws in other states, as well as the federal Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act (ROSCA, 15 U.S.C. §8401 et seq.). It is also informed by Federal Trade Commission guidance on automatic-renewal disclosures and dark patterns (FTC Section 5; FTC 2022 dark-patterns report).
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
- Sending an email to your registered address
- Displaying a prominent notice in the Service
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
